Student Job Bulletin – Langson and Ayala Science Libraries
LIBRARY SECURITY MONITOR (LSM) IV – $10.00/HOUR
LSMs may be required to work at any of the three Libraries' buildings: Langson Library, Ayala Science Library and the Libraries Gateway Study Center. LSMs assist in the closing of the Libraries' buildings and are required to work late night hours. (Please refer to Libraries' hours at http://www.lib.uci.edu/about/hours/index.html) Working extended hours during 10th week and Finals is required. Attending LSM and Libraries Customer Service training sessions is required.
Duties include:
Patrolling buildings and immediate environs to ensure patrons are following Libraries' policies such as Noise and Food and Drink as listed on http://www.lib.uci.edu/about/policies/library-policies.html
Clearing buildings at closing
Ensuring buildings are locked appropriately
Assisting with security gate enforcement
Assisting with shelving duties as necessary
Basic qualifications:
Ability to work late night hours
Ability to follow Libraries' emergency procedures
Registered as a full time student at UCI. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a professional manner
Requires frequent exercise of judgment
Must be responsible, assertive and self-confident
FACILITIES ASSISTANT IV – $10.00/HOUR
Will provide labor to relocate collection material at various library sites. The student will work in the Facilities Department assisting the Senior BMWs (Senior Building Maintenance Worker). He/she will sort the mail obtained from the post office and deliver it to the various departments throughout the library. The student will also be required to drive the library van, on occasion, to and from the post office, and on gift pick–ups. Packing and unpacking of Interlibrary Loan books, and the receipt of boxes and other materials from outside vendors are also encompassed by the duties of the student. The student will be under the general direction of the Library Facilities Building Maintenance Supervisor. Student will load truck and occasionally drive to our storage locations and to the Grunigen Medical Center in Orange in order to deliver or pick up equipment. Assists the Sr. BMWs to relocate collection material and/or skilled labor such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc. Will also assist in daily duties, which may include washing windows cleaning tables, carpet cleaning, etc. Could be assigned assistance during special Library Facilities projects, such as warehouse reorganization, furniture surplusing, etc. Must be available to occasionally work early mornings, summer, and quarter breaks. The student must possess a valid California Driver's License WITH a clean DMV record.Must be very responsible, assertive, AND self – confident. Must be able TO communicate well both verbally AND IN writing.Must be able TO establish AND maintain effective working relationships WITH Supervisors, students, staff, faculty, AND other patrons OF the library.Must also be able TO lift AND carry fifty lbs.
REFERENCE ASSISTANT II - $8.24/HOUR
Shelve materials in the Reference collection, microform collections, map collections and Current Periodicals Room. Assist with collection maintenance tasks such as shifting, shelf reading, labeling, and keeping stack and study areas organized. Ability to operate computers, printers, scanners and microform machines in order to provide basic assistance to patrons and have the ability to report problems to supervisor. Perform online searches within ANTPAC and MELVYL to verify document locations, call numbers, and holdings. Assist librarians with special projects. Assist supervisor with projects. Other duties or special projects as assigned.
Ability to pay close attention to detail. Ability to apply good customer service skills when necessary. Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks in a timely manner.
REFERENCE ASSISTANT III – $8.57/HOUR
Shelve materials in the Reference collection, microform collections, map collections and Current Periodicals Room with a high degree of accuracy. Responsible for collection maintenance tasks such as shifting, shelf–reading, and keeping stack and study areas neat and organized. Ability to operate computers, printers, scanners and microform machines in order to provide assistance to patrons. Ability to troubleshoot basic computer related and microform machine problems and to know when to report problems to supervisor. Perform online searches within ANTPAC and MELVYL and library databases to verify document locations, call numbers, and holdings, and have the ability to interpret the content. Assist Supervisor with projects. Assist Librarians with individual and bibliographic projects, paying close attention to detail. Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Working knowledge of Government Document call numbers, LC Call numbers and other filing systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Intermediate knowledge of ANTPAC and Melvyl.
SENIOR BINDERY PREP/REPAIR ASSISTANT III – $8.57/HOUR
Duties include: repair of library materials utilizing basic repair options & materials; create & edit ANTPAC item records; create & edit keyboard remapping files for use w/ANTPAC editing; w/draw issues for binding using pullslips or review of shelves, print bindery slips for Monograph using MS word & print Serial binding slips using ANTPAC; edit batches of records from Boolean files; process returned bindery shipments.
