Bibliographic searching for books and other research materials using ANTPAC & MELVYL online catalogs (further training provided as necessary). Other tasks as required. 6-10 hours per week.

The Special Collections & Archives Assistant III performs both basic and intermediate-level student tasks, including:

Perform intermediate MELVYL and ANTPAC searches

scanning paper

The Special Collections & Archives Assistant IV performs at the highest levels of responsibility for handling and preservation of rare books and manuscripts. The student may identify problems based on observed situations and may recommend solutions. The student performs all Special Collections student tasks, including:
Assist supervisor with training of less experienced student assistantsFollow basic rare materials handling and preservation procedures

Perform advanced MELVYL and ANTPAC searches

Use a slide scanner to create digital images of slides with specific scan settings

Assist librarians and other supervisors with special projects
Other duties or special projects as assigned, including advanced shelf reading, catalog maintenance, and archival processing
Web Services Assistant III – $8.57/HOUR
Under the supervision of the Web Services career staff, the student will assist in the maintenance of the UCI Libraries' web site. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating new web pages and scripts, modifying existing web pages and scripts and importing content into the Libraries' new content management system.
Familiarity with database layout concepts.
Working knowledge of UNIX file systems access.
Advanced knowledge and experience in hand–coding HTML, XML & CSS.
Demonstrated experience with Macromedia Dreamweaver or other html authoring tool.
Web Services Assistant IV – $10.00/HOUR
Under the supervision of the Web Services career staff, the student will assist in the maintenance and development of the UCI Libraries' web site. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating new web pages and scripts, modifying existing web pages and scripts, and importing content into the Libraries' new content management system. Other duties such as creating templates for the content management system and database development and programming may be assigned as needed.
Experience with PHP/SQL programming.
Familiarity with database layout concepts.
Working knowledge of UNIX file systems access.
Advanced knowledge and experience in hand–coding HTML, XML & CSS.
Demonstrated experience with Macromedia Dreamweaver or other html authoring tool.
