Commissioned by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the formal end of the Vietnam War, this work had its world premier in Orange County on April 1995. Composed by Elliot Goldenthal, with Komunyakaa's "You and I Are Disappearing," and "Boat People" incorporated in the text. Recorded by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra with Yo Yo Ma, Carl St. Clair, Ann Panagulias, James Maddalena, Pacific Chorale, Pacific Chorale Children's Voices, and the Ngan-Khoi Vietnamese Children's Chorus.
