Easily create bibliographies with Bibliographic Management Systems (BMS). BMS enables researchers to collect and manage references to books, journal articles, conference proceedings,
etc; format them according to precise styles (e.g., MLA, APA, Turabian,
Chicago); and create a bibliography for use in a research paper or publication.
Depending on the software used, there are many advanced features that
allow you to organize, manage and store a personal database of your literature
references.
With Bibliographic Management Software (BMS) you can export references
from many (but not yet all) library catalogs (e.g., ANTPAC and Melvyl)
and databases (e.g. PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, PubMed and Expanded
Academic ASAP) and import them into your BMS database/library. From there,
you can export formatted bibliographies into a word processor or html
format. In addition, you can produce bibliographies and manuscripts with
in-text-references in a variety of publication styles (e.g., Chicago,
APA, or journal-specific.)
The UC Irvine Libraries support RefWorks and EndNote,
but there are other software applications on the market which you might
consider for a personal subscription, as well: ProCite, Reference
Manager, WriteNote and BibTeX.
