The UCI Alumni Association was created in 1968, only three years after the first students entered the university. As of 2004 UCI has 85,000 alumni, many of whom have gone on to contribute to making Orange County a vibrant part of the Southern California metropolitan area. Some alumni have earned recognition for their success in fields such as the arts, literature, and sports.
