From its inception, UCI was meant to be closely linked with the local community. Some relationships were launched even before the campus opened in 1965, beginning with the Irvine Company’s donation of acreage for the site. While continuing to develop the learning community envisioned for the university and its surrounding area, the campus has continued to forge fruitful civic and private partnerships.
