Because the initial academic plan for UCI and the university itself were created simultaneously, the input of the original faculty was important to the final design of the curriculum. In the 40 years since it was founded, UCI has gained national and international prominence by attracting faculty of high caliber who have been awarded countless academic distinctions, including 3 Nobel Prizes, as well as entrance to the most distinguished learned societies.
