The UC Irvine Libraries Special Collections & Archives announce a new digital collection, the Frank Cancian Documentary Photographs, 1957-2002, that illustrate the fascinating anthropological studies performed by Cancian during his career.

The collection consists of three sub-collections of photographs taken by UC Irvine Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, Frank Cancian, during separate projects in 1957, 1971, and 1973-2002:

  • The Lacedonia photographs document the people and places in a small town in Italy in 1957.
  • The Zinacantan photographs document the people and places in and around Zinacantan, Mexico in 1971.
  • The Orange County Housecleaners photographs document the working lives of housecleaning staff in Orange County, California from 1971-2002.

The collection is available at UCISpace @ the Libraries at http://ucispace.lib.uci.edu/handle/10575/10875.

A finding aid for the Frank Cancian papers, including additional anthropological study materials, is available through the Online Archive of California at http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt6m3nf6tk/
