Appointment of Gerald Lowell as Interim Library Director
— Irvine, Calif., June 8, 2010 —
I am delighted to announce that Gerald R. Lowell will serve as Interim Library Director effective June 1. Mr. Lowell's appointment as Interim University Librarian is pending final approval from the Office of the President.
Mr. Lowell holds an M.A. in Librarianship from the University of Washington and a B.A. in Russian Area Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College.
Prior to his current post at UCI as Assistant Dean of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Mr. Lowell has held a number of administrative posts within our UC system. He was the Chief Administrative Officer of the Education Abroad Program for the Office of the President, University Librarian at UC Berkeley, University Librarian and Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Information Technology at UC San Diego, Associate University Librarian and Director for Technical Services at Yale University Library, and Chief of Cataloging Distribution for the Washington, DC, Library of Congress. He also served as Vice-President and Managing Director for North America for Faxon, and as head of the Serials Division Title II-C Serials Project for the University of Washington Libraries.
