Tutors Conference Promotes Writing Excellence
The UCI Libraries and Center for Excellence in Writing and Communication
The 2014 Southern California Writing Centers Association Tutors Conference
On March 1st, the UCI Libraries and Center for Excellence in Writing and Communication will host the 2014 Southern California Writing Centers Association Tutors Conference (link to: http://sandbox.socalwritingcenters.org/2014-tutor-conference/) on the UCI campus.
This is the first time the event has been held on the UCI campus and underscores the Libraries and the Writing Centers shared goals of promoting writing excellence and developing students both in and out of the classroom. The Southern California Writing Centers Association was created to encourage dialogue about writing and learning.
The conference is expected to bring together approximately 200 students and professionals from colleges and universities across the Southern California region to discuss current practices and areas of future development in tutoring, writing centers, and writing programs. Undergraduate tutors will give presentations on the conference theme, "Transformative Reflections."
The keynote address will be delivered by Catherine Palmer, UCI Libraries' head of Education and Outreach; Michelle Tsai, UCI coordinator of the Scholarship Opportunities Program; and Professor Jonathan Alexander, UCI Campus Writing coordinator, Chair of Women's Studies and Director of the Center for Excellence in Writing and Communication.
