Saving Video on the PCs

When you are done editing your video, you can export a final copy of the video to the hard drive or to a video recorder (for example a VCR or camera). There are at least three programs on the MRC PC to export your final edited video:

Windows Movie Maker
Sonic MyDVD
Roxio EZ CD Creator

Saving to Hard Drive
To save your finished video to the hard drive click “File”, “Save Movie File”, click on “My Computer” (or alternatively click on “Save to my computer” under the “3. Finish Movie” link on the left side of the window. Enter a name for the movie (or use the default name), and a place to save the movie (must be on the s:\ drive). Click “Next”. You can keep “Best quality…” selected or change the output format of the video (although all are .wmv type files [Windows Media Format]). Click “Next” to save the file.

Saving to CD
To save your finished video to a CDR (does not work for DVDR) click “File”, “Save Movie File”, click on “Recordable CD” (or alternatively click on “Save to CD” under the “3. Finish Movie” link on the left side of the window. Click “Next”. Enter a name for the movie (or use the default name), and a name for the CD. You can keep “Best quality…” selected or change the output format of the video (although all are .wmv type files [Windows Media Format]). Click “Next” to write to the CD.

NOTE! Windows Movie Maker cannot make DVD-Video, however, you can create a .wmv video file which can then be imported to Sonic, or iDVD (Mac) to make a DVD-Video disk.


Saving to DV Camera
First turn on your DV camera and set the camera to “play” mode. Next connect your camera to the open end of the firewire cable connected to the computer. Click “File”, “Save Movie File”, and “DV camera” (alternatively you can click “Send to DV camera” on the left side under “3. Finish Movie”). Cue your tape to the correct location to record on to and click “Next”. Click “Yes” to overwrite the content on your tape. The program will automatically render the final video file to a temporary folder, turn on “record” on the DV camera, send the movie to the camera (you should see the movie in the viewfinder or side screen of the camera if it is open), then will send your camera the “stop” command to stop your camera from recording the video. Click “finish” to close the window.

On the desktop double-click "DigitalMedia Home". Drag and drop your video files onto the "Sonic MyDVD" window. When ready to create the final DVD (or CD), click on the red "Record" circle.

Making a DVD-Video

Saving to CD or DVD
On the desktop, double click on the "Roxio" icon. Click "Copy files to disc". A new window titled "Creator Classic" opens. You can simply drag and drop your videos into the bottom "Data Disk Project" part of this window. When you are ready to copy the files to the DVD (or CD) click the "Burn" button.

Making a DVD-Video
On the desktop, open the "Utilities" folder, and double click on then "Roxio Easy Media Creator Home" icon. Click "Create new DVD". Make sure "DVD" is selected and click "OK". Drag and drop your videos to the "Menu" part of the "DVD Builder" window. You can then drag and drop other videos to the "Menu Editor". This will be the first screen shown when the DVD is put into a DVD player. Each video you drag and drop will be a "Menu Button" that will open that video. If you want to put more than one video linked to only one button, then drag and drop the videos to the "Production Editor" window instead of the "Menu Editor" window. When you are ready to make the finished DVD-Video click on the "Burn" button.
