University Archives: Collection Strengths

• Academic planning
  The University Archives holds materials that document academic planning, including those that relate to the establishment and accreditation of academic programs, the definition and revision of curricular and departmental requirements, the formulation and approval of courses, and the evaluation of teaching and learning.
• Campus administration
  Publications and records from the highest levels of UCI's administration may provide a general overview of the campus's organization, achievements, programs, decisions, and activities.
• Campus planning and architecture
  Beginning with the first campus proposals in 1959, the University Archives holds a variety of materials pertaining to the design and planning of UCI's campus and buildings.
• Faculty and staff
  Documentation about UCI faculty and staff includes photographs of many early faculty and staff, directories, and administrative records and publications documenting policies and issues of concern to faculty and staff.
• Gender and diversity
  The University Archives has both published materials and administrative records documenting the efforts, organizations, and events at UCI to support a diverse community.
• Students and alumni
  The University Archives has a variety of documentation about UCI students and alumni, including administrative records from UCI offices concerned with student and alumni affairs, publications from various student organizations, student newspapers, yearbooks, photographs of student activities, and student and alumni directories.

• Archival administrative records
  The University Archives holds over 3.5 million documents created or used by UCI offices in the course of their daily activities. These documents are organized into archival collections, which are named for the UCI office that originally maintained them.
• Photographs
  The University Archives holds approximately 50,000 images of the UCI campus. The images document a wide array of subjects including campus buildings, events, student activities, and faculty.
• Publications
  The University Archives holds over 2,000 published volumes and countless smaller publications about UCI and from UCI offices and student organizations. University publications include yearbooks, directories, course catalogs, newspapers, newsletters, brochures, fliers, and posters.

  A history of UCI, written by UCI faculty member Samuel Clyde McCulloch and published in 1996.
• New University
  UCI student newspaper. There is no index available.
• UCI, the First 25 Years
  Published by the UC Regents in 1992.
• UCI General Catalogue
  An annual publication describing the UCI campus and its services, academic departments and their requirements, course offerings, university policies, and a wealth of other information.
• Yearbooks and directories
  Yearbooks and directories are good sources for documentation of students, faculty, staff, and programs at UCI.

• California College of Medicine records
  Documents CCM from the establishment of its first predecessor, the Pacific College of Osteopathy, in 1896 to 1967 when CCM was incorporated into UCI.
• Central Records Unit Records (AS-004)
  Documents UCI’s administration in its first three decades. Includes correspondence, departmental memoranda, meeting minutes, financial statements, statistical analyses, reports, program development plans, and building development plans from UCI offices.
• Chancellors' Files
  University business papers of UCI's first four chancellors: Daniel G. Aldrich (1962-1984), Jack W. Peltason (1984-1992),  Laurel L. Wilkening (1993-1998), and  Ralph J. Cicerone (1998-2005).  These collections have not yet been organized; please contact us for more information.
• Communications Department photographs (AS-061)
  More than 34,000 photographs depicting campus events, places, services, and people. These include campus buildings, campus scenes showing student activities, athletic teams, and student groups.  This collection has not yet been organized; please contact us for more information.
• Clubs and organizations publications
  Documents the activities of UCI campus groups serving students, faculty, and staff.
• Cross Cultural Center Records
  Documents the activities of the Cross Cultural Center at UCI.
• Early Campus Photograph Albums
  372 photographs in seven volumes documenting UCI's first decade, 1959-1969.
• Greek Life records
  Documents the activities of the Greek Life office and Greek letter societies at UCI.
• Policies and Procedures
  Revised and superseded documents from UCI's online "Administrative Policies and Procedures" and its predecessor, the Irvine Campus Policy and Procedures Manual.
• UCI Newsclips (AS-008)
  Clippings from newspapers from 1954-1996 about many topics relating to UCI. This collection has not yet been organized; please contact us for more information.
• Vietnamese Student Association records
  Publications and records of the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) dating from 1979 onward.
