DERRIDA is the award-winning new documentary film about the brilliant and controversial French philosopher and distinguished UCI Professor Jacques Derrida.  Best known as the founder of "Deconstruction," Derrida's work has radically influenced the fields of literature, art, architecture, fashion, music and critical theory, inalterably marking the intellectual landscape of the 20th and 21st centuries. Derrida’s extensive personal papers are located in the UC Irvine Libraries' renowned Critical Theory Archive.

Directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering Kofman, DERRIDA premiered to standing room only crowds and rave reviews at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival before being screened at film festivals throughout the world.  Public screenings later broke attendance records at theaters throughout the United States.  The film's bold visual style, mesmerizing score by Oscar-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, and novel editorial approach create a rich, lively cinematic experience--one that at once questions, provokes, and entertains.
