                        The 2004 Nellie Ansley Reeves Student Essay Contest . . .

Prizes of $500 each!
Open to Undergraduate and Graduate Students!

The original essay is to be four to six pages or 1000 to 1500 words in length on the theme The Places Reading Has Taken Me. The essay must exhibit personal style, originality, and creativity and pertain to the topic assigned. The MLA (Modern Language Association) style guidelines should be followed.
The contest is open to any registered student at UCI. Undergraduate and graduate students from any academic unit may participate.
2 prizes of $500 each will be awarded:
Prizes are made possible through the Nellie Ansley Reeves Essay Award Endowment.
Essays must be submitted no later than
5 pm, March 1, 2004.

Winners will be invited to a special Library event to accept their awards.
Judges are appointed by the UCI Libraries, and will consist of literary luminaries from UCI and/or the literary community.
Essays submitted will remain the property of the Libraries. Winning essays will be kept in the University Archives for public viewing.

All entries must be submitted with the following information attached to the front of the essay:

Date of submission, name, address, phone number,
email address, class standing, student ID number,
and the signature of the candidate with the statement:

"I hereby submit the attached essay and assent to the above listed rules."
