The UCI Libraries host an event sponsored by the American Printing History Association Southern California Chapter -- "Opposites Attract," a lecture by Gregory Graalfs. Mr. Graalfs has worked in the publishing industry for some years. He is an independent printing historian and has taught printing history and typography. He has degrees from U.C.S.C and Boston University and has studied at Harvard University. His current research interest is literary fine presses in California from 1950 to 2000. In this lecture Mr. Graalfs will address his experiences as a student in the 1970s at U.C.S.C. with Jack Stauffacher and William Everson, two preeminent California fine printers. He will also reflect on his work on Everson's landmark book Granite & Cypress by Robinson Jeffers, a book that has been on many lists of the best fine press books of the 20th century.
