Bibliographic Management Software
(e.g., RefWorks and EndNote)
Bibliographic Management Software enables researchers to
collect and manage citations to books, journal articles,
conference proceedings, etc; format them according to precise
styles (e.g., MLA, APA, Turabian, Chicago); and create a
bibliography for use in a research paper or publication.
Depending on the software used, there are many additional
and advanced features that allow you to organize, manage
and store a personal database of your literature citations.
The UC Irvine Libraries support 2 bibliographic management
software packages (RefWorks and EndNote),
but there are other software applications on the market which
you might also consider exploring for personal use: ProCite,
Reference Manage, WriteNote and BibTeX.
RefWorks
RefWorks is a web application accessible from every campus
computer and every off-campus computer that is connected
to the campus network through the VPN
and proxy server. The UC Irvine Libraries have paid for
a campus-wide subscription to this product.

EndNote
Currently the Libraries provide access to one licensed copy of EndNote version X1 in the
Multimedia
Resources Center (MRC), Interactive
Learning Center (ILC), and in the Grunigen
Medical Library at the UCI Medical Center. Due to licensing restrictions, Endnote X1
is only available to UC Irvine students, faculty, and staff.
For off campus
use of EndNote, students, faculty and staff should buy a
copy of the EndNote software at the UC
Irvine Computer Store. There is no remote access to the
Libraries' copies.
