Over the next nine years, UCI will continue to grow at a significant
rate, culminating in the final “build out” of the campus
in terms of maximum size of enrollment, employees, and physical plant.
Anticipating this build out, the Executive Vice Chancellor has engaged
the campus in a process to produce a plan that will guide UCI through
2014.
The UCI Libraries have conducted extensive planning over the years,
both for new initiatives and to improve existing programs, including
collections, services, computing, budgets, staffing, and space. The UCI
Libraries Strategic Plan 2005-2014 has been developed within the
context of the campus plan and priorities, focusing on services to students,
faculty, staff, alumni, and the community, and covering the same time
period, up to 2014.
The development of the Libraries’ Strategic Plan 2005-2014 has
been guided by the following points highlighted in the campus strategic
plan:
- Enrollment growth is expected to climb to 32,000 by
2014
- Graduate enrollment growth is a priority
- Community and campus demographics and needs are changing
- New academic programs and professional schools, including a
law school, are likely
- Research within the academic programs is critical to the success
of UCI
- UCI has aspirations to be the “university of choice
for California students” and to continue its rise in the ranks
of the top public universities from its current ranking of twelfth
- The enhancement of campus life for students and faculty is
a priority
- UCI will have a prominent and influential role in Orange County
and in Southern California , and will have significant responsibilities
because of that role
- Financial resources beyond state support must be secured
- The information technology infrastructure must be robust, secure,
and cutting edge
