INVITE YOU TO ATTEND THE FORUM
Scholarly Communication -- THE NEXT WAVE
THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2003
3:00 TO 5:00 PM
Langson Library, HOLDEN ROOM
Executive Vice Chancellor Michael R. Gottfredson and University Librarian Gerald
J. Munoff, together with guest speaker Karin Wittenborg, University of Virginia,
will present the Libraries' first forum on Scholarly Communication on Thursday,
April 24th, 3-5pm, in the Langson Library, Holden Room.
EVC Gottfredson will discuss scholarly communication as a vital part of the
university's teaching and research mission, and highlight challenges the faculty,
the Libraries, and the campus must address.
UL Munoff will discuss how the Libraries plan to explore these issues through
its ongoing Scholarly Communication and Management Program (SCAMP), a series
of forums to facilitate campus discussions of the key scholarly communication
challenges facing the academic community.
Guest speaker Karin Wittenborg, University Librarian of the University of
Virginia, will speak on "Scholarly Communication - The Next Wave".
The University of Virginia Library was an early initiator of many digital innovations
and continues to be at the forefront of the digital library issues with its
advanced E-Text Center. Ms. Wittenborg will share Virginia's experiences and
identify key issues we will all face. Prior to becoming University Librarian
at Virginia in 1993, Wittenborg held leadership positions at UCLA, Stanford,
SUNY-Buffalo and SUNY-Albany Libraries.
Discussion and a reception will follow the program.
