COLLECTIONS, GENERAL TERMS OF USE, & LENDING RULES

Collections

The Interactive Learning Center (ILC) houses the Science Library's collection of non-print media serving the schools of Biological Sciences, Engineering, Information and Computer Science, Physical Sciences, portions of Social Ecology, and the College of Medicine .

The Library actively collects titles that support instruction and research for the academic programs at UC Irvine. The Collection consists of videocassettes, DVDs, Laserdiscs, slides, sound recordings, CD-ROMs and computer diskettes.

Valid UC Irvine Library cards are required to check out all ILC materials.

Terms of Use

Films and videorecordings are loaned to UC Irvine faculty members and graduate students for UC Irvine classroom instruction, preview or research. Videorecordings being previewed or used for research are subject to immediate recall if needed for classroom showing. Videorecordings and films are loaned to UC Irvine staff for UC Irvine classroom instruction only. All other borrowers may view materials for on-site use only. A valid UC Irvine library card is required for viewing privileges.

Due to copyright or purchase restrictions, films and videorecordings cannot be broadcast or electronically transmitted in any way, and they may not be used for group recreational or fund-raising programs. Please contact the ILC Manager with questions about showing films or videorecordings outside the classroom.

Classroom booking requests must be received two business days in advance. Specific booking dates for each item are required. This will assist us to protect your booking and accommodate multiple bookings for the same item when possible. Eligible borrowers may request items to be delivered via the UC Irvine Libraries Document Delivery Services (DDS).

The borrower assumes responsibility for actual replacement costs for any lost or damaged media items. Actual replacement cost will be determined by the appropriate Subject Librarian. Charges for lost or damaged non-print material will include a billing charge and processing costs if necessary.

The ILC does not loan equipment for use outside the UC Irvine Libraries. Users who need media equipment for personal, departmental or classroom use can contact the UCI Instructional Resource Center, which supplies media equipment to the campus.

UC Irvine faculty members and UC Irvine graduate student instructors who need ILC media for specific classroom showings or class previews should contact the ILC Manager to place a recall on material that is checked out to another borrower, except for personal or departmental copies on Course Reserve.

If an item is recalled, the new due date will be ten days from the date the recall was placed, unless the original due date is sooner.

Borrowers will be mailed or e-mailed a recall notice with the new due date and a courtesy overdue recall notice. Failure to receive recall and overdue notices does not exempt a borrower from fines or a lost ILC media bill. Home and e-mail addresses may be changed in My ANTPAC or at any Loan Desk.
