Loan policy
Reserve materials may be checked out by UCI students, faculty, and staff.
Borrowers must have a valid UCI library card in hand to check out Reserve
materials. You may borrow 2 Reserve items at a time.
The loan period for Reserve materials is determined by instructors who
place these materials on Reserve for courses.
- Most Reserve items are checked out for 2 hours.
- Some books on Reserve may be checked out for 24 hours or 72 hours.
| Loan period |
Return time |
| 2-hour |
Due exactly 2 hours from time of checkout |
| 24-hour |
Due exactly 24 hours from the time of checkout |
| 72-hour |
Due exactly 72 hours from the time of checkout |
Reserve items should be returned to the Loan/Reserve Desk where they
were checked out. Patrons may be subject to overdue fines if the Reserve
materials are left elsewhere.
If a 24-hour or 72-hour item would normally be due at a time when the
Loan/Reserve Desk is closed, ANTPAC will set the due time and date at the
next time the Loan/Reserve Desk opens.
If checked out within two hours of closing, 2-hour items may be checked
out overnight and are due when the Loan/Reserve Desk opens the next day.
2-hour items cannot be renewed. 24-hour and 72-hour items can be renewed
only one time per checkout and must be returned to the appropriate Loan/Reserve
Desk by the new due date and time.
Billing policy
An item is overdue if it is returned to the Loan/Reserve Desk after the
time and date it is due. Strict fines are levied to ensure timely return
of Reserve materials so that others may use them.
A $2 per hour (or any portion of that hour) fine per item will be charged
on overdue Reserve material.
Example: A $6 fine will be charged for Reserve material returned at
2:01 p.m. that was due at noon the same day.
You will be billed for the cost of the Reserve item plus processing charges
if the item is never returned or is lost.
Unpaid fines may accumulate additional late fees and result in the suspension
of UCI Libraries privileges.
