UC Irvine Libraries' SPIRIT Program
The SPIRIT Program organizes several different types of visits to the UCI Libraries. These range from full-day, “Day at College Experience” visits to research sessions in our technology-enhanced classrooms. Financial support for these visits varies according to the school district and subject. Regardless of the level of financial support from the UCI Libraries, the Education & Outreach Department works closely with the visiting teacher to create a customized lesson to meet the needs and abilities of his or her students. Whether students come to the Library individually or as part of an organized trip, they can all benefit from our Suggestions For Successful Visits. We also offer an online, interactive tutorial to help students of all levels learn more about beginning their research.
If you are interested in bringing your students to campus, contact Rachel Shulman, Research Librarian for Education & Outreach, directly at (949) 824-9826, or fill out this form.
The SPIRIT program has four main goals:
- teach information literacy and life-long learning skills to students and teachers, increasing their understanding of and confidence in their abilities to locate and use information appropriately;
- facilitate access to, and use of, online scholarly resources;
- assist students in becoming eligible and competitive for matriculation at the University of California, to thrive academically, and to graduate;
- help middle and high school students envision themselves attending college.
