The Grunigen Medical Library provides wireless network access to the Internet
for UCI faculty, staff, and students with a valid UCInetID. To use wireless
access to connect to the Internet, UCI users will need to:
- Have a personal laptop with a wireless card
- Determine the MAC address (usually on the back of the wireless card)
- Register the MAC address on the NACS
website using a UCInetID
- Be in a location that is a designated WIRELESS ACCESS ZONE (see GML
Wireless Coverage Map)
Laptop Loan Service
Laptops with wireless cards are available for check-out at the Information
Technology Center (ITC) in the Grunigen Medical Library, Building 22A. Borrowers
will need a valid UCI Library Card, a 2nd picture ID, and a valid UCInetID.
Laptops can be taken anywhere on the Medical Center campus; are not limited
to the Library (see List
of UCI wireless locations); and can be loaned for
two hours at a time.
Laptops include:
- DVD/CD-ROM drive
- Touch pad that functions as mouse
- Two-hour battery
- Wireless networking card
Software includes:
- Microsoft Windows XP
- Microsoft Office XP: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer
- Secure CRT (PINE E-mail)
- Adobe Acrobat
- Absolute FTP
Assistance/Support
- Borrowers'

are available at the ITC Service Desk.
- Assistance in the use of wireless
technology is provided at the ITC Service Desk.
