Conditions of Use and Licensing Restrictions for Electronic Resources

Last Modified August 12, 2009

Many of the electronic resources available through the UC Irvine Libraries are governed by license agreements which restrict use to UCI students, faculty, staff and in most cases other users who access material from terminals located in the library. It is the responsibility of users to ensure that these resources are used for personal and/or educational non-commercial purposes without systematically downloading, distributing, printing or retaining substantial portions of the information. Examples of prohibited uses include, but are not limited to, such actions as downloading or printing entire journal issues or electronically transmitting online content to mailing lists or electronic bulletin boards. Restrictions vary from resource to resource.

Breaches of the University's contractual arrangements with resource providers could result in the suspension of access to the resources for the entire UC community.

For additional information on appropriate use of electronic resources, see Computer and Network Use Policy (http://www.policies.uci.edu/adm/pols/714-18.html).
