"IS THE VISUAL WORLD A GRAND ILLUSION?"

This paper looks at a new form of skepticism about perceptual experience that takes its start from developments in perceptual science (especially work on change blindness). According to this new skepticism, perceptual consciousness is a kind of false consciousness. I criticize the skeptical reasoning and propose a new framework for thinking about the nature of perception and perceptual consciousness. According to this new framework, perception isn't something that occurs in us. It is something we do.
