ClasePeriódica: Latin American Journal Index Online

The Libraries now subscribe to ClasePeriódica, an index to Latin American and Caribbean journals in the humanities, social sciences and sciences. This is the first large Latin American database to index articles in such a wide array of subject disciplines.

Produced by the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Department of Latin American Bibliography, ClasePeriódica has thus far indexed more than 455,000 articles from 2,700 scholarly journals published in Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French. It covers diverse fields, including arts, biology, geosciences, history, law, literature, management, medicine, and others. Subject index terms are in both Spanish and English.

Available through WorldCat, ClasePeriódica is updated every three months and is really two databases with a single interface. Clase covers the social sciences and humanities from 1975 to the present, while Periódica indexes the sciences from 1978 to the present. The journals are published in 24 Latin American and Caribbean nations. There is some overlap with the Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI) in the social sciences and humanities.

ClasePeriódica contains not only articles but also essays, book reviews, monographs, conference proceedings, technical reports, and interviews. Users can simultaneously search Clase and Periódica or limit their search to either one. Keyword searches can be in English, but more articles are retrieved using Spanish or Portuguese terms. Results screens indicate whether UCI holds a particular journal title. No full text of articles indexed is currently available.
