DMPTool Helps with Sponsored Grant Applications

Funding agencies, such as the National Science Foundation, have begun mandating that grant applications include a short "data management plan" detailing how a researcher would handle any data he or she would collect or analyze in the sponsored research.

DMPTool

UCI Libraries have joined with the California Digital Library and other institutions in rolling out a DMPTool, aimed at helping researchers:

  • Create ready-to-use data management plans for specific funding agencies
  • Meet requirements for data management plans
  • Get step-by-step instructions and guidance for data management plans
  • Learn about resources and services available at your institution to fulfill the data management requirements of their grants

Currently the DMPTool provides advice geared towards data management plan (DMP) requirements from specific funding agencies, for the NSF, and the directorates within it. Funding agencies profiled with their DMP requirements include NSF, NIH, and NEH.

UCI research grant applicants can log in to DMPTool using their UCInetID to access content geared to specific funding agencies and any services locally on this campus. For example, in the NSF section, there is a hyperlink to the UCI Libraries' NSF Data Management Plan page.

We are interested in ways we can improve this tool to make it more useful to researchers, so please send us any feedback. Daniel C. Tsang, Data Librarian (x4478 or dtsang@uci.edu).
