Detailed information about the rare books and archival materials in Special Collections and Archives is now available via the department’s expanded, illustrated website.
The Libraries’ non-circulating special collections are used annually by thousands of UCI students, members of the local community, and scholars who travel from throughout the United States and the world to use unique materials found in no other library or archive. Some highlights available via the new website:
Critical Theory Archive: A link to detailed guides for the scholarly papers of seminal figures such as Jacques Derrida, Wolfgang Iser, Stanley Fish, Paul de Man, and Murray Krieger.
Southeast Asian Archive: Lists of major topics, people, and geographic places for which the Archive holds materials, often in published books, journals, ephemeral items, and archival collections. Also a direct link to SEAAdoc: Documenting the Southeast Asian American Experience, our new digital resource containing thousands of items from the Archive.
University Archives: An extremely rich part of the site, the University Archives section includes lists of topics, publications, and archival materials (including photographs) in areas of interest to researchers and UCI administrators and staff: academic planning, campus administration, campus planning and architecture, faculty and staff, gender and diversity, students, and alumni.
Orange County: UCI’s Orange County history collections are the strongest in the County, and our archival, manuscript, and photograph collections in this area are our most extensive. Some areas of particular strength include environmental preservation, women in local politics and the public sphere, city histories, and early family histories.
Artists’ books: The section describing our collection of more than 400 artists’ books offers a definition of this somewhat elusive term and provides guidance on how to search ANTPAC for examples of the genre, particularly in our areas of emphasis: artists’ books by women, on 
contemporary American politics, and from Latin American Nations.
The site also describes our services, such as duplication policies and prices, how to obtain permission to publish, and helpful information for visitors from off campus. The description of each archival collection includes a direct link to a complete finding aid. Citations for books are directly linked to ANTPAC searches or records. Key reference sources and topically-related exhibits are included for each collecting area.
