CHECK OUT DESK STUDENT ASSISTANT
Train and assist patrons in the use of the Express Checkout equipment.
Check materials in/out.
Create on-the-fly records for materials not properly attached in ANTPAC
Assist patrons with the placement & pickup of holds, renewals, recalls and searches.
File library documents.
Provide information, directional, and referral services for library users.
Read email reminders and updates regarding Check-Out Desk procedures on a regular basis.
Record daily statistics.
Report any problems to staff member on duty.
Assist in other duties as assigned.
Troubleshoot copiers and printers (loading paper, changing toner, fixing paper jams)
Record supply inventories.
Assist patrons with copiers, printer, scanners, regenerators and microfilm units.
Will provide labor to relocate collection material at various library sites. The student will work in the Facilities Department assisting the Senior BMWs (Senior Building Maintenance Worker). He/she will sort the mail obtained from the post office and deliver it to the various departments throughout the library. The student will also be required to drive the library van, on occasion, to and from the post office, and on gift pick–ups. Packing and unpacking of Interlibrary Loan books, and the receipt of boxes and other materials from outside vendors are also encompassed by the duties of the student. The student will be under the general direction of the Library Facilities Building Maintenance Supervisor. Student will load truck and occasionally drive to our storage locations and to the Grunigen Medical Center in Orange in order to deliver or pick up equipment. Assists the Sr. BMWs to relocate collection material and/or skilled labor such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc. Will also assist in daily duties, which may include washing windows cleaning tables, carpet cleaning, etc. Could be assigned assistance during special Library Facilities projects, such as warehouse reorganization, furniture surplusing, etc. Must be available to occasionally work early mornings, summer, and quarter breaks. The student must possess a valid California Driver's License WITH a clean DMV record.Must be very responsible, assertive, AND self – confident. Must be able TO communicate well both verbally AND IN writing.Must be able TO establish AND maintain effective working relationships WITH Supervisors, students, staff, faculty, AND other patrons OF the library.Must also be able TO lift AND carry fifty lbs.
LIBRARY MONITOR (LM)
LMs may be required to work at any of the three Libraries' buildings: Langson Library, Ayala Science Library and the Libraries Gateway Study Center. LMs assist in the closing of the Libraries' buildings and are required to work late night hours. (Please refer to Libraries' hours) Working extended hours during 10th week and Finals is required. Attending LSM and Libraries Customer Service training sessions is required.
Patrolling buildings and immediate environs to ensure patrons are following Libraries' policies such as Noise and Food and Drink
Clearing buildings at closing
Ensuring buildings are locked appropriately
Assisting with security gate enforcement
Assisting with shelving duties as necessary
Ability to work late night hours
Ability to follow Libraries' emergency procedures
Registered as a full time student at UCI. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a professional manner
Requires frequent exercise of judgment
Must be responsible, assertive and self-confident
Will assist the Stacks Manager in maintaining the overall quality and good order of the stacks.
Sorting, Organizing, and Shelving of Materials
Assisting in major/minor shifting portions of the collection
Assisting in closing of the Library, (which includes clearing the building of patrons, upholding general maintenance of study areas, and working closing hours).
Assisting in any additional stacks projects assigned by the Stacks Manager.
