UC Partnership with JSTOR to Create a Print Archive

JSTOR is an online database of fully-searchable, printable, and downloadable digitized back issues of journals in a wide range of disciplines. JSTOR is heavily used by UCI students and faculty, and studies show that they prefer to use these journals in electronic format.

In order to provide a secure backup for the database, JSTOR has reached agreements with Harvard and the University of California Libraries to create archives of print copies of the journals that are available online. The UC-JSTOR print archive will reside at one of the UC Libraries' regional library facilities.

  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase I: Contains volumes from 353 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall") .
  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase II: Contains an additional 100+ journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall") .
  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase III: Contains an additional 213 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall")
  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase IV: Contains an additional 247 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall")
  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase V: Contains an additional 358 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall")
  • JSTOR Print Archive Phase VI: Contains and additional 139 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall")
  • JSTOR print Archive Phase VII: Contains additional 120 journal titles with additional volumes added ("moving wall")

Current project:

November 2014 to June 2015 - UCI Libraries is planning to continue contributing the following titles to JSTOR Print Archive Phase VII.  Libraries plan to send volumes within requested publication year range to the UC regional library facilites. This approach will help campuses to reduce duplicate print holdings and allow libraries utilize collection space effectively. Any concerns/comments can be sent to Dana Peterman, Head of Collection Strategies Department (dpeterma@uci.edu).
